Wanda Marie Smith

May 25, 1936 — March 20, 2026

Vian, Oklahoma

Wanda Marie Smith, 89, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, March 20, 2026.

She was born in Carlile, Oklahoma on May 25, 1936, to Walter Otis Daily and Jessie (Morris) Daily.

She attended school in the one room school at Carlile and very much enjoyed growing up in rural Oklahoma with her sister and life long friend, Billie June Taylor Elliott. Their days were filled with walking to and from school, church and to friend's homes. The family later moved to Vian where Wanda attended school with a young man named James Smith. The two became very close and were married after they graduated. They started right away in building their family.

Wanda dedicated her entire life to her family, she was the perfect wife for James and a wonderful mother to her three children. When she did find spare time, Wanda would sew clothing for a few local ladies. They would provide the fabric and a pattern from which she would sew new dresses, blouses or skirts for the outrageous price of $1!

She later attended LPN school at Fort Smith School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1968. Her first job was at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in the emergency department. When the Vian Nursing Home opened, she started on opening day and continued until her retirement in 2010.

After her children had grown and began having their own children, Wanda enjoyed her grandkids more than anything. Life at Granny's house was a fun place to be!

Wanda also enjoyed gardening, taking care of the yard, sewing for her family and caring for Tuffy, their precious dog. She loved trips and get-togethers with her sisters. More than anything she enjoyed being with her family.
