Velma Leona (Allen) Edwards

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Velma Leona (Allen) Edwards, age 82, who departed this life on September 15, 2025, in Greenwood, Arkansas. A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Velma's life will be celebrated during her funeral service on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Copic Baptist Church in Nicut, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Long Cemetery in Muldrow, Oklahoma, with arrangements entrusted to Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Born on March 20, 1943, in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, Velma was the daughter of Minnie Marie (Turner) Allen and Harvell David Allen. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Bradford Edwards on May 23, 1959, in Muldrow, Oklahoma. Kenneth preceded her in death on March 29, 2021. Velma dedicated many years of her life to her career at Baldor Electric Company and was a member of Copic Baptist Church.

Velma is survived by her loving family, which includes one daughter, Stephanie Shook of Greenwood, AR; three sons, Phillips Edwards of Mountainburg, AR, Bill Edwards of Muldrow, OK, and Brian Edwards and Nina of Muldrow, OK. She cherished her seven grandchildren: Lindsey Wright, Brad Edwards, Kendall Edwards, Shawn Edwards, Samantha Tuck, Amanda Shook, and Tyler Shook. Additionally, she leaves behind 20 great-grandchildren, three sisters—Kay Vanzandt of Muldrow, OK, Francis Wilson of Van Buren, AR, and Jeannie Morton of Cedarville, AR—and two brothers, Shannon Allen of Muldrow, OK, and Eual Allen of Fayetteville, AR, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; two grandchildren, Heather Edwards and Chris Edwards; and four brothers: Lex Allen, Mike Allen, Bernis Allen, and Doug Allen.

Family members will serve as active pallbearers. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 2 PM to 8 PM and on Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK, where the family will greet visitors from 4 PM to 6 PM on Thursday.
