Funeral service for Thomas “Tom” Long, 96 of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
He was born on April 30, 1926, in the Brushy community to Joe Long and Bess McKinney Long. He passed this life on January 3, 2023, in his home at Brushy Mountain, north of Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He married Wanda Kisselburg on April 7, 1951 in Van Buren, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on October 4, 1975. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a rancher. Throughout his life he worked as a dispatcher for Time D.C., an auto mechanic and salvage yard manager, and a taxi, truck and ambulance driver. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Tom was active for several years in the VFW, participated in fundraising events, colorguard, built ramps for the handicapped, and various other activities.
Survivors are one daughter, Sherry Long of Sallisaw, OK; one son, Barry Long of Sallisaw, OK; companion of 46 years, Ruby Henry of Sallisaw, OK; two granddaughters, Rachael Long of Charlotte, N.C. and Ashley Willson of Beloit, WI; five grandsons, Todd Long, Troy Long, Travis Long, Skylar Long and Joshton Henry; ten great-grandchildren, Faith Long, Lacy Long, Rowan Long, Benjamin Long, Mara Long, Jensyn Long, Felix Long, Alie Long, Clay Willson and Creek Willson; his extended family, Sherrel Henry, Shelia Crittenden, and Phil Henry; and several other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Thomas Long; five sisters, Bonnie Hacker, Jewell Roberts, Annie McCaslin, Ruby Long, Elba Benge; two brothers, Choc Long and Carl Long; and his special lifelong friend, Cud Ball.
Active Pallbearers will be Todd Long, Troy Long, Travis Long, Skylar Long and Joshton Henry.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Wayne Brown and Dwight Bese.
Viewing will be 10 am – 8 pm Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.
