Ruth Ellen (Morrison) Long, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at her home in Gore, OK surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born March 21, 1942, in Pulaski County, AR, to Stella Maxine Mills (Morrison/Webster) and Curtis Judge Plez Morrison. She spent her childhood in Akins, OK, always playing with her little brother, and cousins. She also attended school at Akins school house, and with these beautiful experiences created unforgettable and fond memories that helped build the foundation for her enduring spirit.
On April 17, 1960, she married John Edward Long in Muskogee, OK. Together, they raised five children and made their home in Lahoma, OK, up until 1978 when they moved to Gore. The years that followed the conclusion of her marriage, she attended vocational school in Muskogee where she earned a Computer Technician/Technology certification while working at Gore Drug, and the Fin and Feather store where she eventually met her late life partner, James “Jim” Oliver. They shared many years together until his passing in January of 2024.
She lived a life defined by happiness and remarkable strength. In February 2022, a stroke paralyzed her left side, she faced her health challenges with an unwavering spirit. Against all odds pulled through and was able to return home under supervised care, never letting the difficulties take away her love for God, flowers, old westerns, Matt Dillon, and of course her family. Her strength and determination were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Ruth is lovingly remembered and survived by her five children: Linda Long of Tulsa, OK, Sharon Cole of Gore, OK, Edward Long and wife Olivia of La Paz BCS Mexico, Howard Long and wife Theanne of Cibolo, TX, and Daniel Long and wife Christy of Van Buren, AR. Her beautiful memory continues through her 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her partner, Jim Oliver; her grandparents, James and Lillie Mills; her parents, Stella and Curtis Morrison; stepmother, Mildred Morrison; half-sister, Delilah Coker; and three grandchildren, Miles Long, Garrett Cole, and Stephanie Long.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Akins Cemetery under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
