Ruth Ann (Davis) McCleod

October 5, 1948 — November 15, 2024

Coweta, Oklahoma, formerly of Sallisaw, Oklahoma

Ruth Ann (Davis) McCleod, 76, formerly of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, departed this life on November 15, 2024, in Coweta, Oklahoma. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the caring direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Born on October 5, 1948 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Annie Oleeta (Rape) and Charley Leland Davis. Ruth's life was a testament to unwavering love and commitment, particularly in her role as the Human Resources Director for the City of Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she served with dedication for over twenty-five years. However, it was through her deepest passion—nurturing and uplifting her family—that Ruth truly flourished.

A devoted member of Sallisaw Baptist Temple, she filled her days with joy as she sang in the choir and played the piano, leaving an indelible mark on her church community. Her spirited involvement extended to her children's interests, where she managed football and band booster clubs and proudly served as a Delta Zeta Pledge Mom during her daughter’s time at Oklahoma State University. Ruth's open heart embraced even new horizons; she cultivated an appreciation for the space industry when her son-in-law joined NASA, demonstrating her boundless support for her family, from military service clubs and women's auxiliaries, to being on the sidelines at her grandchildren's events. Whether it was football, volleyball or basketball games to band competitions, livestock exhibitions, and most recently a deep appreciation for K-9 Units and passionate police supporter, she was so proud to see each of them find their calling.

Ruth’s life was beautifully entwined with faith, family, and the simple joys of cooking and country music. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved fiercely.

She is survived by her cherished daughter and son-in-law, Shawnna Sallee and Joel of Houston, TX; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew McCleod and Kaylee of Coweta, OK, Madison McCleod of Catoosa, OK, Anabelle and Abbey Sallee of Houston, TX, Marshall and Mariah McCleod of Catoosa, OK; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Emery McCleod of Coweta, OK, Willa Chilcoat of Catoosa, OK, and Hudson McCleod of Catoosa, OK. She also leaves behind three sisters, Anna Lee Vann of Tahlequah, OK, Mary Ellis and Jim of Tulsa, OK, and Rachel Kokojan and Dan of Sallisaw, OK; a brother, John Paul Davis of Tulsa, OK; along with numerous relatives and friends whose lives she touched.

Ruth was preceded in death by her devoted husband and love of her life of 28 years, Thomas Jerry McCleod; her son, Thomas Jerry McCleod, II; her parents, Charley Leland Davis and Annie Oleeta Rape; her brother, Charley Leland Davis, Jr.; and her 20-year companion, James Holmes.

As we gather to celebrate Ruth's monumental life, we hold close the memories of her unwavering love and kindness, knowing that her spirit will forever shine brightly among us.
