Richard “Dick” Johnson Miller, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, passed away on April 22, 2026 at the age of 78. He was born on January 21, 1948 to Edward and Nettie (Johnson) Miller in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Dick worked for Wal-Mart and as a mechanic before moving to Kellogg, Idaho and later to Republic, Washington, to work in the mining industry. He mined for coal, diamonds, silver and gold before retiring to become a truck driver. After fully retiring, he moved back to Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
Dick was a die hard NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching races at local, regional, and professional tracks in person and didn’t miss many on tv. He was a lifelong fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks and supported OU football and softball, except for when they played Arkansas. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, adult league softballer, and loved to karaoke to “Mind Your Own Business” and “Kaw-Liga”.
He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Miller of the home; one sister, Jeanette Loris of Fayetteville, AR; four grandchildren, Keith Miller and Deanna of Nine Mile Falls, WA, Kassy Griffin and Denny Dobbins of Greenwood, AR, Ryan Miller and Amanda of Fort Smith, AR,and Jordan Edge and Tyler of Fort Smith, AR; nine great-grandchildren, Christian, Hayden, Nicholas, Rhys and Wyatt, all of Nine Mile Falls, WA, DJ, Gavin, and Charleigh, all of Greenwood, AR, and Aleksandr of Fort Smith, AR; great grand dog, Millie of Fort Smith, AR; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his companion, Janet Miller; sons, Samuel “Charlie” Miller and Scott Miller; his parents, Edward and Nettie Miller; brothers, Harry Miller and Eddie Miller; sisters, Virginia Patterson, Dr. Jean Medlock, Jesse Suhor, Hattie Miller and Judy Loux; and many other loved ones.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 6 - 8 PM at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 1, 2026 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw with interment to follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery under the direct of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Honorary Pallbearers are Lanny Magness, Jim Murray, Dennis Kahila, Chuck Patterson, Russ Patterson, Tyler Edge and DJ Dobbins.
