Funeral services for Nelda Fern Kinsey, age 96, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at the Sallisaw City Cemetery, with arrangements entrusted to Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Nelda was born on April 14, 1929, in Hanson, Oklahoma, to Maude Ella (Broaddrick) Davis and Arthur Davis. She passed away on March 28, 2026, in Sallisaw. In 1948, she married Bill Kinsey in Sallisaw; he preceded her in death on June 9, 2007.
Throughout her life, Nelda was known for her athletic spirit, notably excelling in basketball at Central High School and Connors State College. She was a devoted member of the Baptist faith, finding joy and fellowship in attending church. Nelda had a passion for cooking and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren. She also contributed to her community as a teacher’s aide.
She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, James Kinsey and Barbara of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Bill Kinsey, Jr. and Fang of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: David Kinsey and Heather of Blackgum, Oklahoma; Danny Kinsey and Cydney of Edmond, Oklahoma; Keli Comstock of Shawnee, Oklahoma; Kacey Daniels and Taylor of Newcastle, Oklahoma; and Blair Kinsey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; as well as seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents; grandson John Kinsey; four sisters, Reba Walker, Mildred Burris, Lajuana Drake, and Emojean Salyers; and one brother, Willie Davis.
Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Nelda Fern Kinsey’s life was one of devotion to family, faith, and community, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
