Laraine Hood

Laraine Hood, 68, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, June 23, 2025. She was born on May 6, 1957, in Fort Hood, Texas, to Jackie Hood, Sr. and Wanda Lee (Hughart) Hood.

For 23+ years she worked for the Sequoyah Memorial Hospital where she held several jobs, but the most important to her was being a loving and caring mother. Her hobbies included doing puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles.

She was a gifted piano player and singer who used her God-given talent to minister to many. Her piano playing began when she was 7 years old where she would sit and play the piano for hours with the radio. She was a singer who blessed hundreds of people with her smooth, anointed southern gospel songs.

If you were blessed to know Laraine, you were blessed to have one of the best friends you ever had. Laraine was a light. A light that chose to shine in the lives of those struggling with life's problems.

She was full of love and laughter and always there to lend a smile.

She was encouraging and would stand in your corner when you needed her. She had a testimony, and she would share it. She lifted many spirits when they were down simply by being her true self, cheerful and genuine. Laraine was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Laraine is survived by her two daughters, Kari Miller of the home and Katrina Armstrong and husband Jack of Sallisaw, OK; two siblings, Jackie Hood, Jr. and wife Barbara of Warner, OK and Teresa Hood of Warner, OK; bonus granddaughter Everlee Shamblin of Sallisaw, OK; bonus sister Tammye Christopher and husband Fred of Sallisaw, OK; bonus Mom and Dad Ronald and maRiea Gilstrap of Porum, OK: her precious fur-babies Walker and Miss Hatty; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dearly loved family and friends.

Laraine was preceded in death by her parents Jackie, Sr. and Wanda Hood; her grandparents James and Clara Hughart and James and Ada Hood.

Viewing will be 10 AM - 8 PM Wednesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw where the family will greet 5 - 7 PM.

A Funeral Service to honor Laraine will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at United Faith Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Pope Chapel Cemetery in Warner, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Active Pallbearers will be Jack Armstrong, Jr., Fred Christopher, Troy Horn, Jerry Horn, Austin Carrigan and Poncho Mendiola.
