Junior J. Hargis

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Junior J. Hargis, age 87, of Gore, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Lake Road Church of Christ in Gore, Oklahoma. Following the service, burial will take place at Old Cache Cemetery in Keota, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Junior was born on May 27, 1938, in Keota, Oklahoma, to Olivia (Kunningham) Hargis and Jessie James Hargis. He passed away on May 11, 2026, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. On June 14, 2001, he married Lois "Oleta" Hargis in Bokoshe, Oklahoma.

A dedicated outdoorsman, Junior enjoyed time spent hunting, fishing, and hiking in the mountains alongside his friends. He also found joy in relaxing at his cabin in Colorado. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.

Junior is survived by his loving wife, Lois "Oleta" Hargis; two daughters, Laura Hargis and Roy Reeves of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and Dana Hargis and Mark "Buck" Gates of Gore, Oklahoma; three sons, Darrell Hargis and Tony of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Lonnie Hargis of Lake City, Florida, and Jason Chalashtari and Amber of Maize, Kansas. He was also a cherished grandfather to thirteen grandchildren: Tyson, Ashley, Justin, Richard, Christopher, Kevin, Alan, Andrea, Jessica, Derrick, Cole, Kaden, and Gage, along with eleven great-grandchildren. He is also remembered by his sister, Julie Kemper of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; brothers, Alvie Hargis of Longmont, Colorado, and Donald Hargis of Datil, New Mexico; and many other relatives and friends.

Junior was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 42 years, Patty Jane Hargis; his parents, Jessie and Olivia Hargis; one grandson, Little Wayne; four sisters, Nora, Ivaline, Laverne, and Virginia; and three brothers, Harold, Glen, and Alvin.

Active pallbearers will include Richard Hargis, Christopher Hargis, Kevin Hargis, Derrick Gates, Alan Hargis, Travis Rodriguez, Cole Chalashtari, Kaden Chalashtari, Gage Chalashtari, and Tracy Gates. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Hargis, Alvie Hargis, Donny Lanier, Roy Raines, and Steve Beach.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
