John Edmond Girty, Jr.

John Edmond Girty, Jr., 56, of Vian, Oklahoma, passed away on June 18, 2025. He was born on May 5, 1969, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Wanda Lee (Washington) Girty and John Edmond Girty, Sr.

John was a general laborer who cherished the joys of life, particularly his love for fishing and the outdoors. He had a passion for building birdhouses and was renowned for his exceptional cooking of brown beans. As a proud fan of the OU Sooners, he embraced his community and shared his culture as a Cherokee Keetoowah Speaker.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kandra Girty of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and three cherished grandchildren: Samuel Gonzales, Nevaeh Gonzales, and Kynley Smith, all of Hot Springs, Arkansas. John will also be remembered by his six sisters: Susan Adair of Tahlequah, OK; Peggy Sue Flute and George of Vian, OK; Brenda Lee Harvell of Gans, OK; Linda Jane Girty of Vian, OK; Elizabeth Jones and Donald of Sallisaw, OK; and his twin sister, Joan May Murphy and Gregory of Vian, OK, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Johnna Girty.

A funeral service to honor John's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Redbird Smith Cemetery in Vian, Oklahoma, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Active pallbearers will include Stone Girty, Jeremiah Caves, Jacob Caves, Martin Morris, Derrick Morris, Stevie Morris, Frank Girty, and Steven Hooper. His brothers-in-law and great nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Viewing will be available from noon to 6 PM on Saturday and from 2 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw.

John will be dearly missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
