“Shot,” “Shottie Pippin,” “Uncle Monkey”

Jimmy Dee Shaffer, affectionately known to many as “Shot,” “Shottie Pippin,” and especially “Uncle Monkey,” age 59, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, passed away on September 19, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jimmy was born on July 20, 1967, and was raised in Muldrow, Oklahoma. He graduated from Central High School in 1985. He was a one-of-a-kind man who could make you laugh, aggravate you just enough to make you laugh again, and somehow always make sure everyone knew exactly what was on his mind.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Lee Shaffer, and his father, Jim Shaffer.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Gene Long; his sisters, Renee Hermansen and Daisy Shaffer; his nieces and their husbands, Heather and Daryn (Danner) Crawford and Tabby and Matt Davis; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Braxton Drake, Kynleigh Crawford, Kennon Davis, Kammie Crawford, Harper Davis, Mattilee Davis and several other nieces and nephews.

Jimmy currently worked at United Faith Church, where he was known and loved by many. Throughout his working years, he also worked at IBT, Bruce Rogers, RGA, and the Tulsa World.

Jimmy enjoyed the simple things in life—and he enjoyed them in his own unmistakable way. He loved watching PBR, Gunsmoke, spaghetti westerns, and Seinfeld. He collected coins, rocks, and knives, and took great pride in tinkering with things and polishing his rocks. He loved the beach, swimming, camping, fishing, rodeos, and spending time with his “monkeys”—his nieces and nephews, who held a very special place in his heart.

And then there was Jimmy being Jimmy.

He loved giving everyone a hard time, making people laugh, and reminding anyone who would listen that he was smarter than everybody else—after all, he had an IQ of 134 to prove it. He was a professional complainer, a master tinkerer, and could frequently be heard saying, “Gosh, I gotta do everything around here.” Those words, along with his quick wit and unique personality, are just a few of the things his family will forever remember and miss.

Jimmy had a way of leaving an impression on everyone he met. He was funny, stubborn, loving, aggravating, generous, and completely himself. Above all, he loved his family and cherished the time he spent surrounded by his “monkeys.”

His absence will leave a hole that cannot be filled, but the memories, laughter, stories, and countless moments shared with Jimmy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A memorial service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held at United Faith Church on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

In true Jimmy fashion, there will undoubtedly be plenty of stories, plenty of laughter, and probably someone being given a hard time.
