Jerry Barrett

May 9, 1951 — July 21, 2024

Bixby, Oklahoma and formerly of Akins, Oklahoma

Graveside Memorial Service for Jerry Barrett, 73, of Bixby, Oklahoma and formerly of Akins, Oklahoma, will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Akins Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on May 9, 1951 in Akins, Oklahoma to Ina Beatrice (Biggs) Barrett and George Lee Barrett and passed away on July 21, 2024 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born into a family of redheaded sisters and mother who gave him a run for his money. His home in Akins, Oklahoma included nine children, six girls and three boys. The family picked cotton and ate a lot of baloney. He attended the two room school in Akins that had one cafeteria. His mom wrote wonderful poetry and his dad grew strawberries. They laughed, joked and played pranks on each other and always invited people into their home.

Jerry married Diane, both young, and had three children, Ed, Sandy and Brandy. He worked various jobs and moved to Bixby, Oklahoma, in the 1980's, where they settled on Leonard Mountain. There, he was a drinking water plant operator for many years. The children went to Leonard School and they bought the Lazy Fisherman's Restaurant and Lil Punkins Car Wash. They also had a few rental homes. As a mason, he built several structures at Bixhoma Lake and Glenpool Parks. Fishing was a favorite pastime. He and his wife eventually broke up.

In 2000 he married Jackie Pratt of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They worked and saved, bought a home, and traveled all over. Las Vegas became one of their favorite vacation spots. Jerry semiretired, landscaped his own homes and grew delicious vegetables every year. He also enjoyed shopping garage sales and auctions.

Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were born and he loved each and every one of them. His family was the most important thing to him. Jerry continued laughing through life and was a great storyteller of the remarkable events in his life. Two favorite sayings of his were, "Beware of redheaded woman" and "I don't want you to grieve for me when I'm gone." The last saying is a totally impossible request, as we will grieve and miss him very much. We love and miss you, Jerry.

Survivors are wife, Jackie of the home; two daughters, Sandy Corn and David of Shulter, OK and Brandy Flynn of Shulter, OK; one son, Jerry Edmond Barrett and Stacy of Sapulpa, OK; three sisters, June Carter and Jerry of Muldrow, OK, Brenda Cooper of Sallisaw, OK and Betty Edwards of Sallisaw, OK; one brother, Tommy Barrett of Sallisaw, OK; nine grandchildren, Easton, Maddy, Remmy, Daniel, Willie, Bubba, Colton, Amanda and Matt; six great-grandchildren, Kay, Nate, Jimmy, Isaiah, Kyler and Ryann; and several other relatives and friends.
