James Lee Wisdom, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2025, at the age of 82. He passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on April 2, 1943, James lived a life marked by service, faith, and hard work. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, provided for his family as a skilled roofer, and answered God’s call as a preacher of the Gospel. In each role, he touched countless lives with his humility, compassion, and unwavering devotion.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Clara, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Together they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and faith. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Pearce; two sons, Charles Childress and Leslie Sutton; and his parents, Dillon and Vola May Wisdom.
Survivors include his four daughters, Sharon Caldwell of Sallisaw, OK, Carolyn Werner of Tulsa, OK, Teresa Childress of Sallisaw, OK, and Cynthia Wisdom of Sallisaw, OK; four sons, Geroma Green of Tulsa, OK, James Wisdom, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Clarksville, AR, and John Wisdom and his fiancé, Jerry Fultz, of Eureka Springs, AR; and his daughter-in-law, Pauletta Childress. He is also survived by hundreds of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, OK, with Thomas Haning officiating. Burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Vian, OK. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating his life during the visitation from 10 AM to 8 PM on Friday, with family visitation from 6 to 8 PM, at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK.
Active pallbearers are retired CW4 Jeremy Cruz, CW2 Ross Childress, CW2 John Wisdom, Jr., retired Master SGT Chuck Tayloe, Blayd Caldwell, and Jacob Cruz. Honorary pallbearers are Bruce Caldwell, Cody Werts, Buddy Werts, Kenneth Sutton, Nick Burris and Daniel Cruz.
The family takes comfort in knowing that James and his beloved wife Clara are reunited in Heaven, and that his legacy of love, faith, and service will live on through all those he touched.
