Muldrow

Graveside Service for Helen J. Fricks, 88, of Muldrow, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 20, 2024 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Helen J. Fricks was born on October 21, 1935 in Wallace, Kansas to Thelma (Messler) Allaman and George Toohey Allaman. After graduating high school she moved to Salina, Kansas to attend Beauty School, where she met her husband, Billy M. Fricks, who was in the Air Force. They married on July 15, 1955. They moved many times during the 22 years of military service. Helen did hair in her home for many years for friends and military wives. She was a Christian of Catholic Faith.

In 1973, they moved to Muldrow where they bought land and started their cattle herd. She enjoyed the cows. She would name them and have them eating out of her hand.

She was a cook at Muldrow Middle School and then head cook. She worked for Muldrow Schools from August 1, 1986 to May 23, 2000.

She was an active member in the community. She was a member of Friends of the Library, MCCO, Cozy Quilters and the Red Hat Society. She was a part of the line dancers, made Indian tacos and her famous caramel corn for the Old Settlers Day.

Helen loved to sew and was a wonderful seamstress. She made so many clothes for her daughter and grandchildren and wonderful costumes for Halloween and plays at schools. She began to make quilts, beautiful detailed quilts. She made them for her children, her grand and great-grandchildren, her sister, brothers and all her nieces, nephews and friends. In March 2011 Helen and a dear friend started a quilting group called The Featherweight Chicks to teach others to quilt. The last couple of years this special friend would come every week, cut blocks and press, so Helen could put the blocks together. Helen was making quilt tops until the very end.

She was a wonderful cook and made many beautiful wedding cakes along with her famous hot rolls.

Helen had a big heart and was kind. She never met a stranger and couldn't say no. She had a servant's heart and had so many dear friends whom she loved. Everybody loved Nanny. She will be greatly missed by so many, but will be remembered for the grace and loved she shared with all.
