Harold Dean Walters went to be with his Lord on January 29, 2024. He was born January 27, 1942, in Bakersfield, California, to John Terrill and Chloe Mae Walters.

Harold grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Skiatook, Oklahoma. He attended elementary school in Tulsa. His high school years were split between Tulsa-Will Rogers and Skiatook, Oklahoma.

Harold joined the Air Force immediately after graduation in 1960. From his basic training in San Antonio, Texas, he was sent to the University of Indiana in Bloomington to study the Russian language! I once asked him why he chose Russia. His reply was “They only gave me three choices. The 1st choice, I didn’t even know where that particular country was located. The 2nd choice, I couldn’t even pronounce the country. So, that left Russia, my third and final choice. It was a challenging language to learn. We had only two weeks to learn the Russian alphabet. It was a difficult language to learn to read and write. The 8-hour days of classes were long and tedious.” When Harold finished, he had the equivalent of three years of college in the Russian language completed in one year of studies.

He was then sent to Wakkanai Japan. Harold served all his time with the Air Force on the Island of Wakkanai where his position was a Radio Intercept Processing Specialist, USAF Security Service.

After his release from the Air Force, he attended Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1966 and his graduate coursework in History at the University of Tulsa. He taught History at Nathan Hale High School from 1967 to 1982.

Harold made the move to Cascia Hall Preparatory School. There he taught American History, Ancient History, Medieval, and World History from 1982 to 2013 until his retirement in 2014.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, John Terrill (JT) and Chloe Walters and a younger brother, John Terrill Walters II, and his wife Patti Walters.

Harold is survived by his older sister, Patsy Carson, her son, Kit, and 3 grandchildren, Patience, Serenity, and Jesse.  Another sister, Paula Walters, and her daughter, Susana Walters. The youngest sister, Pam Goldsmith (Steve) and her children are Kyle Daugherty (Heather) and Paige Daugherty. Kyle has 2 children, Sawyer and Harper. John Terrill II and Patti have 3 children, Kasey, Brandy, and John Terrill III.

Harold’s final resting place will be at the Garden of Memories in Vian beside his Mom and Dad.
