Elsie Genevive Welch

Memorial Service for Elsie Genevive Welch, 69, of Vian, Oklahoma will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 12-Step Fellowship Church, 96990 Hwy 82, in Vian, Oklahoma. Cremation is under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Ms. Welch was born on May 17, 1954 to Maxine (Norwood) Welch and Mort A. Welch. She passed from this life on December 31, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Vian Nursing Home in Vian, Oklahoma. Ms. Welch had been a long-term patient of Choice Hospice Care.

She was a graduate of Broken Bow High School where she excelled in the marching band playing the cornet. Her abilities earned her a world tour and a scholarship at the University of Oklahoma where she played first chair cornet. She left school to accept a job with the Department of Human Services. She later took jobs at Bacone College as a dormitory supervisor, the United Methodist Children’s Home as a house parent and the United Methodist Boys Ranch as a counselor and later the Assistant Director. She also worked at Blue Sky Behavioral Health and a a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor.

Elsie was a charter member of Canterbury Chapel 12-Step Church, now the 12-Step Fellowship. She loved music, fishing, football, and her dogs.

Survivors are daughter, Karey Drew of Dallas, TX; brother, Mort G. Welch and his wife, Sherry Smith Welch, of Oklahoma City, OK; a large extended adoptive family; Ellen Whitaker-English, Meri Whitaker, Bill Whitaker, Patti Whitaker-Brauer, Melani Whitaker-Davis, Laurie Whitaker-Gassaway and Jack Whitaker and their families; and a host of friends and loved ones.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents; a special “Aunt Hunkie” Norwood and her adopted mother, Betty (Beth) Woodman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Davis, Mark Brannick, Brian Brannick, Chris Brannick, Mason Brannick, Caden Brannick, Jacob Brannick, Jay Nair, JR Gassaway and Jack Whitaker.
