A Graveside Service to honor the life of Cherokee Sue Still, age 82, of Gore, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Rock Fence Cemetery in the Nicut community, Oklahoma. The service will be conducted under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Cherokee was born on March 20, 1944, in Eufaula, Oklahoma, to Violet Louise (Johnson) Still and Tobe Still. She passed away on May 9, 2026, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Cherokee dedicated her career as a draftsman engineer for the BIA Road Department and was a member of the Baptist faith. Cherokee was a first language Cherokee speaker.
She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Tonya Cooney and Jarrett of Eufaula, Oklahoma, and Sonya Ward of Gore, Oklahoma. Cherokee cherished her family greatly, including seven grandchildren: Jill Ward, Rylee Ward, Jesse Miller, Taylor Devin, Shayla Sloan, River Carlton, and Raine Carlton; and 17 great-grandchildren: Oaklei, Benjamin, Bailey, Bentley, Layla, Clementine, Ayden, Phoebe, Gage, Diezl, Heidi, Ty, Jayse, Everly, Dawson, Jax, and Brady.
Cherokee is also survived by four sisters: Shirley Sutton of Wagoner, Oklahoma, and Fredia Vann, Katie Taylor, and Jerry Buchanan, all of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who held her dear.
She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Ward; grandson, Benjamin Ward; great-grandchild, Takoda Carlton; her parents; sister, Dorothy Powell; and brother, Johnny Still.
Active pallbearers will include Raine Carlton, Jarrett Cooney, River Carlton, Ty Purdom, Diezl Purdom, Gage Scarberry, Jayse Boyd, Brandon "Bud" Devin, Aron Sloan, Todd Morris, and Levi Lawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Taylor, Tom Sutton, and Geno Buchanan.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, where the family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
