Cecil Wise "C.W." Sherer, Jr., age 95, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2025 in Muldrow, Oklahoma.
Born November 18, 1929, in Jasper, Alabama, C.W. devoted his life to service, family, and country. He was a proud career naval officer, serving honorably through both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
After a distinguished military career, Cecil pursued a lifelong passion for horses, becoming one of the nation's leading Quarter Horse breeders. Known for his integrity, quiet strength, and laid back personality, he earned the respect of all who knew him-both in uniform and on the ranch.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Sue Sherer; his son, James Sherer; and his grandson, Heath Sherer.
He is survived by his son, Donald Sherer, and daughter-in-law Linda Sherer; his grandson, Blake Sherer, granddaughter-in-law Carrie Sherer; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Sherer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 17, 2025, at New Horizon Memorial Gardens in Dora, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m.
Cecil's life was marked by honor, devotion, and quiet grace—a true gentleman of his generation whose legacy of service and family endures.
