Buck Newton, age 73, of Vian, Oklahoma, departed this life on January 3, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, under the guidance of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Buck was born on September 17, 1952, in Dover, Arkansas, to Rosa B. (Bohannon) Newton and Hanford Garland Newton. He married the love of his life, Cheryl (Cannon) Newton, on June 23, 1978, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Buck dedicated much of his career to Exxon Mobile, where he served as an orientation supervisor before retiring.
His faith played an important role in his life as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sallisaw. An enthusiastic supporter of the University of Oklahoma, he cherished the thrill of college football and softball. A lifelong musician, Buck had a special fondness for The Beatles and enjoyed sharing his passion for music. He was also a devoted pet owner, finding joy in the companionship of his beloved dog, Pennie Lane.
Buck leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Melissa Ann Newton of Shawnee, OK; and son, Michael Patrick Newton and Kayla Murphy of Washington, OK. He is also survived by two sisters, Kay Wallace of Sallisaw, OK, and Sherry Sossamon and Dub of Owasso, OK, as well as cherished nieces and nephew, Allison Griffey, Stephanie Wilsey, and Doug Pratt. His legacy continues through his great nieces and nephews: Isabella Wilsey, Lilah-Grace Wilsey, Derek Griffey, Brandon Griffey, and Blaine Griffey, along with numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Susan Hamburg, and nephew, Jeff Stiles.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sallisaw First Presbyterian Church for the Blessing Box, honoring Buck's spirit of generosity and community support.
