Funeral Service for Billy Poindexter, 85, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

He was born on March 4, 1938 in Brushy in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma to Ethal (Honeycutt) Poindexter and Clinton Poindexter and passed away on September 2, 2023 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was married to Irene (Cantrell) Poindexter on December 24, 1959 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2009. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Survivors are two sons, Billy Don Poindexter and Heather of Mount Vernon, WA and Steven Poindexter of Coweta, OK; one daughter, Pam Young and Glen of Vian, OK; four grandchildren, Holly Cain, Mindy Young, Nikki Poindexter and Heather Poindexter; eight great-grandchildren, Parker, Paige, Landry, Nolan, Nathaniel, Ciaran, Ginney and Eve; one sister, Effie Lois Rankin of Tuttle, OK; and many nephews and nieces who held a special place within his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Ethal (Honeycutt) Poindexter; wife, Irene (Cantrell) Poindexter; five brothers, a twin brother, Bobby, Pauley, Watie, Elmar and Carl Poindexter; and three sisters, Liddie Branham, Carolyn Flute and Evelyn Sanders.

Pallbearers will be Edward Poindexter, Bobby Poindexter, Glen Young, Parker Frederick, Kyle Cain and Mitchell Ellis.

Viewing will be 10 AM – 8 PM Wednesday at Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Home in Sallisaw, OK where the family will greet 6 – 8 PM.
