Bernis Harvell Allen, "Mule," age 76, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was a graduate of Muldrow High School and attended college at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He worked as a masonry, carpenter, and contractor for many years. He also worked at Fort Chaffee Army Post in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Services, retiring in 1996.

Bernis was born to the late Harvell and Minnie (Turner) Allen. Surviving siblings are Eual Allen, Shannon and Elaine Allen, Kay Vanzandt, Frances and John Wilson, Jeanie and David Morton, and Velma and the late Kenneth Edwards. His late siblings are Doug, Mike and Lex Allen. Bernis is survived by his wife, Sherrill Allen, his son Chad Allen and wife Clarissa, and daughter Sarah Ramirez and fiancé Shay Crawford, grandchildren Bryce Allen and partner Katie Shockey, Mattyx Allen, Rayden Shockey, Desmynn Corry and Luca Ramirez, great-grandchildren Leland, Brennon and Krymsen Kelsey, Lane Allen, great-great niece Lilo May Potter and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bernis married Sherrill (Jones) Allen of Liberty, Oklahoma on February 14, 2008. Bernis loved to play his stand-up bass, listening to bluegrass and Gospel music, and often traveled with Sherrill to play music for others to hear. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend to so many. He was a selfless and generous man, who always put his family first. Bernis loved the Lord, and he attended church at the House of Refuge in Gans, Oklahoma.

He truly lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting and visiting with friends and family, spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
