A graveside service for Barbara Jean Matlock, 72, of Muldrow, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Cottonwood Cemetery in Muldrow, under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Born on December 19, 1953, in Tucson, Arizona, to Marjorie (Latham) Hale and John Bailey Hale, Barbara passed away on July 2, 2026, in Van Buren, Arkansas. She dedicated her career to serving as both a paralegal and a teacher. A graduate of Muldrow High School, she pursued further education at Westark College in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where she earned multiple degrees. Known for her talent in mathematics, she generously devoted her time to tutoring high school and college students. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, who were the highlight of her life.
Barbara leaves behind her son, Phillip Matlock and his wife, Claire, of Muldrow, OK; five cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, Taylor, and Owen Matlock of Muldrow, OK, and Maisie Matlock of Van Buren, AR. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill Hale of Alma, AR, and Craig Hale of Van Buren, AR; her sister, Patricia Weaver of Dardanelle, AR; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Christian Matlock; her parents, Marjorie and Bailey Hale; and her brothers, John Hale and Roger Hale.
Barbara's kindness and dedication to helping others will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
